Class Formats

The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA) offers the CPO Certification class in two formats:

The Traditional 2-Day Class

This is the traditional class program and requirement to achieve the CPO Certification. It is 2 full days of classroom time with 14 to 16 hours of instructor contact.   The first day we cover about three-fourths of the material, then finish up in the morning on the second day.   We review right after lunch the second day then start the proctored CPO exam.

The Pool Operator Primer

CPO Certification in only one day of Class

PHTA has the full curriculum online for self-paced learning, called The Pool Operator Primer.  It is broken up into 8 sections with a short quiz at the end of each.  If completed, this may be used in lieu of attending the first day of the 2-Day class.  To receive your CPO Certification, however, you must attend our second day of the 2-Day class, called Pool Operator FUSION and present your Certificate of Completion from the Primer course and pass the proctored CPO exam.

Our  "HeadStart" Program

The online, self-paced Pool Operator Primer course can also be used as a "HeadStart" or preview of what to expect in the 2-Day class.  Several of our students take advantage of this as a preparatory class to get ready for the full two days with the instructor.  You get the benefit of reviewing the curriculum and study online at your own pace, and you also benefit from the presentation and interaction from the instructor during the 2-Day class.

The Pool Operator Primer online material is available to you for an indefinite period of time.

Our Class Delivery

Welcome to our Live Virtual Classroom!

We deliver our CPO Certification class 100% live online.  We offer the traditional 2-Day class on consecutive days, and two other date structures: the "Back 2 Back" and the "4 by 4", to accommodate students who cannot give up the time of 2 full working days.

The Traditional - Two Consecutive Days

This is our most common setup. The two consecutive 8-hour days are Thursday and Friday. The classroom opens at 7:30am and the class starts at 8:00am promptly. There is a break in the morning, an hour lunch and then a break in the afternoon. On Friday, we finish the presentation in the morning and start the proctored CPO exam at about 1:30pm. We usually dismiss at about 5:00pm. All times are Pacific time.

The Back 2 Back - Two Consecutive Saturdays

To accommodate students that just cannot get away for two full working days, we offer the CPO Certification class on two consecutive Saturdays, 8 hours each.  The classroom opens at 7:30am and the class starts at 8:00am promptly. There is a break in the morning, an hour lunch and a break in the afternoon.  On the second Saturday, we finish the presentation in the morning and start the proctored CPO exam at about 1:30pm.  We usually dismiss at about 5:00pm. Again, to accommodate students that just cannot get away during the working day, we offer the CPO Certification class on four consecutive evenings, four hours each. The first two four hour sessions, Tuesday & Wednesday are the first day of the 2-Day class, and Thursday & Friday sessions are the second day.  The classroom opens at 3:30pm and the class starts at 4:00pm promptly. The first three evenings we go over the material. On Friday, the fourth evening, we will do a review and then start the proctored CPO exam at about 5:00pm. We usually dismiss at about 8:00pm on all evenings. All times are Pacific time.
