Did you know that May is Water Safety Month?   One full chapter in our CPO Handbook (Chapter 14) is dedicated to Water Safety.   As an introduction to the class, I cite the statistics of drownings in Orange County: “Between the years of 2005-2007, on average, over 8 children each year drown in Orange County, California, alone.  Folks–that’s a pre-school class!” (OC Report)

A pre-school class is lost every year!–and that’s just in Orange County, California!  — A gruesome statistic AND the most tragic thing about it is that it is 100% preventable.  The swimming season is here, so please be aware, be safe and watch your children!

2004 Long Beach Competition Pool for U.S. Olympic Trails

We had a bit of fun in our class this past Thursday and Friday, May 5-6 at SCP, Riverside.   Everyone was alert, participated and asked very relevant questions.  And everyone left class knowing something new.  Even I–the CPO Instructor–learn something new from each and every class…..such as:

Do you know what a “Myrtha” pool is?  Just click on the link to read about them.   And click on the picture (to the left) to see the Myrtha pools that were set up in Long Beach in 2004 for the U.S. Olympic trials.  Well, now we know!
